The best days to perform a ganapathy homam are:
- Ganesha chathurthi that falls on shukla paksha in bhadrapada lunar month
- sankashtahara Chaturthi of every month.
- The third day of navaratri that falls on tritiya is also an auspicious day to perform Ganapathi homam
- Janma nakshatra or birthdays.

Procedure for performing a Ganapathy homa
1. Anujnaa – this involves the set of Mantras that seek the cooperation and permission from Lord Ganesha and other dieties to perform the Homam.
5. Kalasa Shuddhi – sprikling of the punya theertham(holy water ) on oneself and the sourroundings for purification.
6. Agni Prathistahapana – lightining of the fire inside the Homam Kunda with a camphor.
7. The Dikpaalaka Pooja and Panchopachara Pooja also takes place for the Lord. The priest offers the preliminary offerings into the Havan Kund with the invocation of the God.

Sandal powder, kumkum, turmeric powder.
