Vaishno Devi Yatra

Vaishno Devi shrine is one of the most worshipped and visited shrines in India. This shrine is situated inside a cave in a hill at the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This cave is located at a height of 5,300 feet amidst Trikuta Bhagwati hill. From Jammu, the temple is located at a distance of 61 km.

This shrine was discovered about a thousand years ago by Pandit Shridhar, a Brahmin. Once the devotee enters this cave, he has to proceed through a path that consists of a narrow tunnel and Charan Ganga (cold stream).

This beautiful cave is home to three pindis of Maha Kali, Maha Laxmi, and Maha Saraswati. The mere darshan of these pindis can turn out to be fruitful for the devotees. According to the mythologies, this is the place where the demon Bhairon was killed by the Goddess Durga. This is the very site where the arm of Goddess Sati fell.

Yatra of Vaishno Devi Temple :

The Vaishno Devi Yatra is a 13 km (four hours) climb from a place called Katra. Although this place is visited by devotees throughout the year the ideal time to visit this shrine is from the month of March to July since the weather is favorable during this period. During the full moon day in Kartika that is either in the month of October or November, you can witness maximum numbers of visitors. The line can be about four kilometers long to get into the sacred cave.

The last 13 km of Vaishno Devi Yatra has to be compromised on foot by the devotees. While on a Vaishno Devi Yatra you will see that the whole 13 km path consists of cafeterias, restaurants, shelters, public utilities, drinking water, etc. The path is wide and tiled and is pretty clean. During night time several sodium vapor lamps are lit up.

The Vaishno Devi Yatra is a yatra that every Hindu should perform at least once in his lifetime.
