It is also known by the name of Jagannath Puri which has been named after Jagannath Temple, an eleventh-century temple situated in this city. The Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra Odisha is one of the grandest events in India. It is known as the festival of chariots of Lord Jagannath. It is held every year at Puri in which the deities of the temple Lord Jagannath, Sri Mandira, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra along with the celestial wheel known as Sudarshana are placed on their respective chariots. These chariots are beautifully decorated and are drawn by thousands of followers. The chariots are designed as the replicas of Jagannath temple. These deities on their chariots are carried in a nine-day journey or yatra from Jagannath temple to Gundicha mandir. The journey is accompanied by thousands of followers.
