Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Ujjain
Shri Mahakaleshwar Jytorling is a religious shrine situated in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The temple is located beside the Rudra Sagar Lake. The Mahakaleshwar Jytorling Ujjain is a temple devoted to Lord Shiva. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingams and is one of the most popular temples of Shiva in India. The jyotirlinga in this shrine is big in size and can be seen encircled by a silver snake. The idol of Lord Ganesha can be seen on one side of this Linga and the idol of Parvati and Kartikeya can be seen on the other side of this linga.

According to Indian mythology, there used to be a ruler named Chandrasen in Ujjain. He was a dedicated devotee of Lord Shiva. Shrikar was a five-year-old boy who was spellbound by the devotion of King Chandrasen. The boy took a stone and started to worship it every day considering it as a linga. Lord Shiva was so much impressed by the devotion of a small children that he took the form of Jyotirlinga. Another story behind this temple is that there used to be a Brahmin in Avanti with four sons.
All his sons were devout worshippers of Lord Shiva. But there used to a demon named Dushanan who used to cause trouble to everybody. Along with these four sons several Brahmins got together to perform pooja, but the demon tried to disturb the pooja. Lord Shiva came to the rescue of his devotees and destroyed the demon.
