The presiding deity in the temple is Endira Saneeshwara.

Erikuppam is small but a famous village with a temple that is dedicated to the Lord Sri Endira Shani Bhagawan in Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu state in India.

Speciality about the temple :


Usually, Shani Bhagavan is worshipped in the form of a statue. Here he is worshipped in the form of  Shivalinga with a yantra. 

Another specialty of the temple is that Lord Saneeshwara here is giving grace along with his mother “Sri Saya Devi”, the presence of his mother makes him happy and peaceful. It is because of this reason the god is believed to grant the boons of the devotees with complete belief in the lord.

Famous festivals and occasions:


Sani peyarchi ( Saturn transition day) occurs once in two and half years is celebrated in a very grand manner. People from the surrounding villages and places come here to seek the blessings of lord Saneeshwara and to reduce the ill effects of the planet Saturn in their horoscope.

Sani peyarchi is celebrated with five days of poojas and homas. Devotees from all over India come here seeking the lords’ blessings with prayers of child boon, wedding, development in life, litigation problems, and others.


Sesame lamps are lit and small black sesame bags are burned here since it is the item that is the best if offered for the lord Saneeshwara.


Vilva aishekam and other poojas are offered to the lord.


Usually, Sanishwara is prayed while standing on the sides avoiding a straight look, but here it is believed that straight seeing will bring fortune and goodness to life.


On the day of Kannum Pongal devotees from nearby villages come here and perform abishekam with 108 pots of milk.


Temple and premises:

The main deity in the temple is lord Enthira Saneeshwara, there is also a shrine for lord Varasiddi Vinayaka in the corridor. The temple has no roof.

The temple is around 500 years old and is said to have built by a king in the 15th century. The temple is renovated recently since it was in a destructive state. 

the Shivalinga is 6.5 feet tall and 2.5 wide. On the top of the linga are the sun, moon, and the vehicle of the lords Saneeshwara - crow is in between the sun and the moon. A hexagonal yantra is placed on the top with the mantras of lord shiva, beej mantras, and mantras of Mahalakshmi.  Sri Saya Devi the mother of lord Saneeshawara is believed to be there on the left side of the lord Saneeshwara.



There is a temple theertham called Bhaskara theertham from where the water for poojas are taken.

 The temple is in the midst of green fields. At the entrance of the temple is the gopuram with lord Shani on a chariot with 5 crows.
