Places to Visit in Erode

Famous for its textiles and handloom products Erode district was once a part of the Coimbatore district that is known for its traditional hospitality. The town is the birthplace of the great social reformer, Orator and politician, Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy, Popularly known as ‘Thanthai Periyar’.There are two old temples here, one dedicated to Lord Siva and the other to Lord Vishnu. Both temples have some interesting inscriptions. The town, however, is best known for its handloom industry and wholesale textile.

Even though Erode is the less explored place in Tamil Nadu, However, this destination also holds certain wonderful places that should not be missed out while travelling to Erode.

Bannari (84km)

This pilgrim Centre has a temple dedicated to goddess Mariamman and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.

Bhavani (14km)

The Sangameswarar temple here is situated at the confluence of the rivers Bhavani and Kaveri. It is one of the most pilgrim centres in South India. The presiding deity is Lord Sangameswarar and is consort is Vedanayaki.

Chennimalai (20km)

This is one of the most important handloom weaving centres of Erode district. There is hill top temple here where originally there was an idol of a six-faced Subramanya. It was damaged and the presiding deity now is Lord Dandayuthapani.

Kodumudi (39km)

The temple here is known for its shrines to Vishnu, Siva and Brahma which are all located in one complex.
